Prayer

Why is prayer so powerful?
Prayer is a mighty weapon at the disposal of every man or woman who loves God, and knows His son Jesus Christ. … Prayer also energizes the heart of a believer through the power of the Spirit. Consistent prayer also releases the power of God’s blessing on your life and circumstances.

Prayer is an act of communication with God
God calls us to pray in order to develop and deepen relationships with Him. God wants friendship. Jesus said in John 15:14-15,
“You are My friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not understand what his master is doing.”

Listen to the prayer of Saint Padre Pio’s. We can use this prayer as a guide to developing our own unique ways of speaking to God through his Son Jesus.

Why did Jesus teach us prayer?
Jesus not only taught his disciples how to pray, he encouraged them to pray together.
Matthew 18:20 says
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
God’s presence in prayer unites us together. We become aware of the needs of others and can provide comfort.

In the Gospel of Luke 11:1-4,
Jesus teaches the Lord’s Prayer to his disciples when one of them asks,
“Lord, teach us to pray.”
Almost all Christians have come to know and even memorize this prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer is called the Our Father.
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done; On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And do not let us fall into temptation; But deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, The power and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.
