Our Mission

The mission entrusted to HEART Publications is to carry on the work of the Church, in spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ.

In the Acts of the Apostles, the early Church devoted themselves to four main areas of life within the Church. These areas included instruction (teaching) from the Apostles, the importance of fellowship with one another, sharing in the ‘Eucharistic’ meal and most important daily prayer.
Acts 2:42 “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

The Mission of the Church
PROLOGUE – taken from the Catechism of the Catholic Church p 7
“Father… this is the eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent 1.
God our Saviour desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth 2. There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved 3 than the name of JESUS.”
1. John 17:3, 2. 1 Tim 2:3-4, 3. Acts 4:12

II. Handing on the Faith: Catechesis

CCC 4 Quite early on, the name catechesis was given to the totality of the Church’s efforts to make disciples, to help men believe that Jesus is the Son of God so that believing they might have life in his name, and to educate and instruct them in this life, thus building up the body of Christ.7

Building the ‘Body of Christ’ the Church
The Church is referred to as ‘The Body of Christ’ which is defined as ‘a mystical union of all Christians into a spiritual body with Jesus Christ as their head’.

The Church is made up of many parts with different functions as outlined in 1 Corinthians 12:12 “You are the Body of Christ. The body is one, although it has many parts; and all the parts, though many, form one body”. This means we must strive to keep these parts working together in harmony. Serving the local Church means helping the ‘Body of Christ’ to glorify God, and not ourselves. In this act of worship and service, we spread the love of Jesus to those around us.

Instruction from St Paul
Ephesians 4: 2-6
‘Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all’.

Taking up our Cross
Taking up our cross daily and following in the footsteps of Jesus is what we strive to do as Christians. Jesus said in Matthew 10 : 38Anyone who does not take up his cross and follow in my footsteps is not worthy of me.Luke 14 : 27 “Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.”

It was through the cross that Jesus established how he was to draw all men to himself.  John 12:32-33 “And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all to myself. 33 He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.”

Let us ‘take up our cross’ and follow in the footsteps of the early Church and seek the Lord with all our HEART.
